  3. Read the license agreement and then if you agree to the terms, accept it.  Read the “Read Me” information.

    1. A shortcut will be placed on your desktop.  Double-Clicking on the shortcut will start Excel and Valiant.  Don’t start Valiant until you have read “How to Run Valiant on you Computer” below.

    2. A sub-folder will contain example race files for you to practice with.  You can make a mess out of them without worrying about it.

Click on the Start button and select <Settings || Control Panel || Add or Remove Software>.  Scroll down and select Valiant Ski Scoring Demo.  Click on the <Change or Remove> button to remove Valiant from your system.

How to run Valiant on your computer

The Valiant program is a large collection of computer commands and dialog boxes written in Visual Basic for Applications 6.0.  Unfortunately, people have used this language to write computer viruses.  Consequently, Microsoft Office programs have security features designed to inform you when files containing Visual Basic macro modules are opened.  If the security level in Excel is set to “High” then files containing macro modules will be opened with all the macros disabled.  In that case Valiant will not work.

Before You Start

Before you attempt to start Valiant from the desktop shortcut, start Microsoft Excel alone and select <Tools || Macros || Security> and set your security level to “Medium”.  When the security level is set to medium, Excel will show a warning dialog box to inform you when a file containing macros is going to be opened and allow you to decide if you want the macros Enabled or Disabled.  You must Enable macros or Valiant won’t work.  If you don't generally open Excel files containing macros, you can set the security level to "Low" and the warning will not appear.

Previous versions of Valiant were “digitally signed” but I have been forced to remove the digital signature because Microsoft has changed the way digital signatures are checked for authenticity.  (Computers must now be logged onto the internet for the signing certificate to be authenticated every time the program is run.  There is a long pause if you don’t have a current internet connection.  It is much quicker to simply click on the “Enable Macros” button.)  If you choose to install Valiant as an add-in (rather than using the shortcut) the macro warning will not come up.

The first time you start Valiant, Excel’s default font will be checked.  If it is not Times New Roman in 10 pt size it will be changed to Times New Roman 10 pt.  This insures that the sheets print correctly.  Excel must close and restart for the change in font and/or font size to take effect.  Valiant will close Excel for you.  Simply restart Excel/Valiant and you will be ready to rock-n-roll.
